You don't need a commercial gym to get serious results. With the right equipment and a corner of your garage or spare room, you can build a home gym that covers every muscle group. Here's what to prioritize.

Start With the Big Three

A solid barbell and plates — This is your foundation. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, rows — one barbell handles all of them. Start with a standard Olympic bar and work your way up on plates.

An adjustable bench — Flat and incline positions unlock dozens of exercises. Don't skip this.

A power rack or squat stand — Safety first. You need something to rack your barbell and catch failed reps. Even a basic squat stand with spotter arms works.

Add Versatility

Adjustable dumbbells save space and replace an entire dumbbell rack. Perfect for accessory work, isolation exercises, and warm-ups.

Resistance bands — Cheap, portable, and surprisingly effective for warm-ups, mobility work, and adding variable resistance to lifts.

A pull-up bar — Whether it's wall-mounted or part of your rack, pull-ups and chin-ups are irreplaceable for back development.

Don't Forget Recovery

A foam roller and lacrosse ball for myofascial release. Your muscles will thank you the next morning.

Lifting belt — Once you're moving serious weight on squats and deadlifts, a proper belt protects your spine and lets you brace harder.
